About Liz

I started this blog to record and share my Japanese-learning journey, and to provide other learners with ideas and inspiration.

My name is Liz and I’m a 25 year old living in the U.S..  My favorite things are dogs, animal behavior, vegan food, video games, and of course, Japanese!

My hope is to someday be proficient enough to translate animal behavior and welfare publications!

I can totally associate with this!

Especially as regards the drama shows and pop- I’d probably never be interested in half of them if they were in English.

Well, if you’re dead set on becoming a teacher, go for it! But… have you considered continuing with animal behaviour research in Japan?? There are actually quite a few places that do it!!! And while you’ll still have to spend plenty of time reading and writing english, the majority of the symposiums and lectures i attended in Japan were in Japanese, and of course day to day conversations around you will be (and outside the university).

Seems like you could have the best of both worlds… 🙂

Thanks IceCream! I really do want to focus on improving my Japanese and entering translation right now. I hope you’re right and I can have the best of both worlds 🙂 Who knows, maybe I’ll specialize in translating research documents or animal welfare materials?! 頑張ります! Thanks again 🙂

    Hi Liz,
Your dream was so funny. :). Did your mother scold you when you ate from bowls? I’d like to hear your bark. 🙂
Good luck with your Japanese and animal research!!

I hardly ever comment on others’ blogs, as I’m still trying to become less shy, but I was so happy to see a fellow vegan learning Japanese that I just had to say thank you. 🙂

Seeing your success and continued dedication eased worries I’d been having, such as wondering at the reactions I’d get from telling someone I’m both vegan and learning Japanese, since I’ve seen some people be very dismissive of vegetarians/vegans unwilling to eat seafood/meat/etc. Then again, those people haven’t even been Japanese, in my experience.

Anyway, you definitely inspired and encouraged me. 😀 ありがとうございます!
